A very special picture book project that is truly dear to my heart, as it reimagines one of my favourite fairytales, Jack and the Beanstalk. I have always been mesmerised by the idea of a natural ladder stretching into the skies, but in Matt Johnson’s interpretation of the story, Jack climbs even higher, all the way to the stars and the Moon. There, he encounters no ordinary giant and uncovers the magic and ancient knowledge hidden within the lunar world.
While illustrating this book, I developed a unique Moon language and carefully infused the artwork with small details that make both of Jack’s worlds feel vivid and alive. Be sure to look closely at the Moon itself as even its walls have stories to tell.
